Still untouched by mass tourism, Nisyros remains a peaceful and laid-back island. The island is most popular for the famous Nisyros volcano, the youngest volcano in Greece, which is still(!) active. Alimia, in ancient texts as Evlimnia or Eulimna, associated with two large bays of the island, Emporio and Saint George, in the eastern and western side of the island, that are safe natural harbours. Their use in antiquity is confirmed by the impressive, carved into the rock, dockyards, dating to the Hellenistic period when it belonged to the Rhodian state. In the Hellenistic period, the island was fortified with the construction of the fortress and used as anchorage and observatory Rhodian fleet. The Hellenistic castle survived until today in the highest peak east of the island.
Symi island is one of the gems of the Dodecanese island chain! It stands out for its beautiful architecture, colourful houses and relaxed atmosphere. The port of Symi seems to have popped out of a painting! The setting oozes charm in abundance! The port of Symi is hands down the ultimate spot for romantic walks and sunset gazing! Beaches in Simi are actually small coves but attract many visitors for their picturesque environment.
